The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) has thanked the Greek Government for its support during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement the Hellenic Olympic Committee said: "We would like to publicly express our gratitude to the Greek Government, which during these difficult times, included athletes, clubs, sports associations and the Greek Olympic Committee itself in the support measures of those affected by the cessation of their activities due to coronavirus.

"The request of the sports bodies was immediately accepted by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, who informed the competent Ministers and succeeded in accepting the fair request.

"This is a fair and equal treatment of the sports family in relation to the majority of the Greek society that rightly enjoys the care and support of the State in the fight against the deadly pandemic.

"The wish of all of us is to overcome the crisis quickly and with the least negative consequences due to the coronavirus so sport returns to normal.

"Until then, we stay home!"

There have been more than 1,600 reported cases of coronavirus in Greece, with 70 fatalities.

Globally, there have been more than 1.2 million reported cases, with more than 66,000 deaths.
