Ortiz, who won silver at Beijing 2008 and gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016 in the F57/58 shot put category, cannot currently attend her local sports facility, Veracruzano Sports Institute, which has been closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

However, she and her coach Júnior Vázquez Ávila had moved training to a local park elsewhere in the city of Veracruz. 

They then faced opposition from neighbours who paid for the maintenance work and feared that she could damage parts of the park through her training, reports El Dictamen.

She posted a video on social media, asking for support with her training due to the ongoing insistence that Tokyo 2020 will go ahead as planned.

"We only need to train because Tokyo 2020 is still valid," she said.

"There are countries in the world that continue training and are preparing.

"We are trying to find a space, on some land, in some park, in some public place to be able to carry out our exercises that cannot be done at home or in some closed spaces."

There are currently 251 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mexico, with two people dying as a result of contracting the virus.
