The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) held a week-long workshop with administrators from five sports in sports management and organisation in the nation's capital of Suva.

An Oceania Sports Education Programme (OSEP), national members of basketball, rugby, billiards and snooker, touch rugby and weightlifting took the Management in Sports Organisation (MISO) course at the Fiji Olympic House.

Run by Kitali Enterprises, the event took the administrators through seven modules including structure of sport, effective meetings, financial management and planning and development.

There were also modules focusing on marketing and sponsorship, event management and club and federation governance.

OSEP mentor Talemo Waqa hopes that the course proves beneficial to those who took it.

He said, "What we hope that participants will take back with them to their individual National Federations (NF) is understanding and knowledge on how becoming better administrators can improve and enhance the operations of the NF.

"Many of our participants have a certain background that is beneficial to the NFs that includes financial officers who are treasurers in their national sports organisation but at this MISO course they are learning something more."

Basketball Fiji's Development Officer Kenneth Taliu said he found the workshop a useful learning experience.

He said, "One of the important things I can take away with me is the importance of knowing your role within the organisation.

"Knowing your role and where you sit in an organisation and how you interact with others is important and could mean a smooth working organisation."

FASANOC have held these courses to ensure their NF Strategic Plans programme is successful, which looks to improve sporting governance in the country.
