Organisers of next year's World Athletics Championships in Oregon have been praised for their progress by the sport's global governing body.

Officials from Oregon 2021 updated World Athletics on preparations for the event during the organisation's Council meeting in Monaco last week.

Despite previous concerns over the budget, the Organising Committee claimed World Athletics' ruling body was happy with its progress towards staging a successful event.

"There was complete agreement that hosting the World Championships in America for the first time ever provides an important opportunity to grow the sport coast to coast across the USA," USA Track and Field (USATF) chief executive Max Siegel said.

"USATF are delighted to be driving this legacy opportunity alongside Oregon 2021's event preparations.

"It is the reason we bid for the event and everyone in USATF is 100 per cent committed to maximising the legacy impact in every one of our clubs and communities throughout the country."

Fears surfaced earlier this year regarding the Oregon Legislature's refusal so far to give the organisers the full $40 million (£33 million/€36 million) they requested to help underwrite half the budget.

Currently, the University of Oregon Foundation, a non-profit organisation responsible for overseeing donations to the University of Oregon, has underwritten the costs.
