The top two seeds will meet in the men's singles final at the All England Open Badminton Championships as part of the Super 1000 Series at the Arena Birmingham in the United Kingdom after winning their respective semi-finals.

In the first match of the day, second seed Viktor Axelsen made the final of the men's singles after stopping the momentum of Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia in three games by a score of 17-21, 21-13, 21-19.

Lee had previously defeated two seeded players on his way to the semi-finals with wins over Indonesia's Jonatan Christie and China's Chen Long but came undone against the world number five.

Axelsen will play top seed Chou Tien Chen after the prospects of an all-Danish final were scuppered when Chou's opponent, fifth seed Anders Antonsen retired during the first set after injuring himself during a point.

The women's singles final will also be a meeting of the top two seeds as world number one China's Chen Yu Fei plays second seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.

Chen's semi-final against Japan's fourth seed Nozomi Okuhara was a straightforward affair despite a tricky second game with the score finishing 21-14, 23-21.

In contrast, Ying earned her win against Spaniard Carolina Marin, the eighth seed and defending Olympic champion, the hard way.

Marin took the first game 21-19 before Ying turned things around triumphing 21-13, 21-11 in the next two games.

In the mixed doubles, Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai came out on top in three games with a 21-18, 17-21, 21-19 win over South Korea's Seo Sung-jae and Chae Yujung.

The third seeds now play the fifth seeds in Indonesia's Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti in the final after they defied a lively home crowd to beat England's Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-15, 21-23, 21-11.

In the women's doubles final, sixth seeds China's Du Yue and Li Yin Hui won in straight games 21-17, 21-17 over fourth seeds South Korea's Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan and now play Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota in the final after they won an all-Japanese affair against Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi 21-12 21-12.

Finally in the men's doubles, top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia made the final after beating Chinese Taipei pair Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin in straight games 21-18, 21-13.

Their opponents in the final will be Japan's Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe who won against Russia's Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov 21-16, 21-15.
