Mexican pair Josue Gaston Gaxiola and Jose Luis Rubio are set to meet Polands Michael Bryl and Grzegorz Fijalek in the final as part of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour in Doha. 

The four players made it through quarter-finals and semi-finals to set up tomorrow’s match in the Katara Beach Volleyball Cup in Qatar in this four-star event. 

In the quarter-finals, Brazilians Evandro and Bruno Schmidt made short work of Americans Nicholas Lucena and Philip Dalhausser in a 21-10, 21-12 win to qualify to meet Gaxiola and Rubio.

The Mexicans shocked top seeds, Russia's Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Oleg Stoyanovskiy in straight sets 21-17, 21-15.

Gaxiola and Rubio went on to shock another top side, defeating Evandro and Schmidt in two tiebreakers both by a score of 22-20.

Italians Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo defeated Americans Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb 21-15, 21-18 and faced Fijalek and Bryl after they won in straightforward fashion 21-13, 21-14 over Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Lars Flüggen.

Bryl and Fijalek took the first set by a thrilling score of 28-26 before making it a straight set by a score of 21-18, knocking the Italians out at the penultimate stage.

The Italians are due to face the Brazilians in the bronze medal match ahead of the final.
