The United States’ earned two further Greco-Roman titles on the second day of the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Canadian capital Ottawa.

The US team had earned three of the six Greco-Roman gold medals on offer yesterday at Shaw Centre.

John Stefanowicz ensured their success continued by topping the podium in the men’s 82-kilogram event, with the American winning both of his matches in the round-robin format.

Mexico’s Jose Andres Vargas Rueda finished as the runner-up, with Puerto Rico’s Marciano Ali rounding off the podium places.

Josef Rau topped the standings in the men’s 87kg division to add to the US medal tally, as he celebrated a 6-0 win over Colombia’s Carlos Munoz Jaramillo in the final.

Jamaica’s Lesyan Osvaldo Cousin Otomuro and Brazil’s Ronisson Brandao Santiago completed the podium places.

The duo were awarded bronze medals after their opponents were forced to withdraw through injury.

Cuba’s Yosvanys Pena Flores denied the US a hat-trick of titles, as he earned a 3-1 victory over the American Patrick Smith in the 77kg final.

Venezuela’s Wuileixis de Jesus Rivas Espinoza beat Colombia’s Jair Alexis Cuero Munoz 6-1 in the bronze-medal bout.

Two women’s freestyle competitions were also contested, with both taking place with round-robin formats.

Canada’s Alexandria Town topped the standings in the women’s 59kg event, with Puerto Rico’s Nes Marie Rodriguez Tirado the runner-up.

The United States’ Lauren Louive secured bronze.

Peru’s Yanet Sovero Nino won the 72kg event, finishing ahead of American wrestler Victoria Francis and Canada’s Shauna Kuebeck.
