Algeria defeated Morocco to reach Tokyo 2020 at the men's International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Afro Paralympic Qualifiers in Johannesburg.

The Algerian side came up against Morocco in the final of the four-team tournament at the Vodacom Mandeville Indoor Sports Center.

They recorded a 63-54 victory, qualifying for their second Paralympic Games after competing at Rio 2016, finishing last.

Algeria now join the United States, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Turkey, Australia, Iran, South Korea and hosts Japan at Tokyo 2020.

In the women's competition, Algeria secured their fifth consecutive win against South Africa, triumphing 62-27.

They had already booked a place at the Paralympics after their third result on Tuesday (March 3), joining a line-up of The Netherlands, Britain, Germany, Spain, Canada, US, Australia, China and Japan.

Despite the ongoing qualification process, wheelchair basketball faces the threat of being removed from the Tokyo 2020 programme.

This is unless the IWBF implements an International Paralympic Committee-approved action plan to improve athlete classification by May 29.
