The 2020 International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Junior World Ski Championships are set to begin in German town Oberwiesenthal.

Athletes in the three disciplines of Nordic combined, cross-country skiing and ski jumping will fight for medals, as will their older counter parts in the Under-23 Cross-Country World Ski Championships.

An extensive competition schedule will begin tomorrow with the junior men’s and women’s cross-country sprint freestyle events.

Among the countries competing will be Austria, whose team for the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships includes multiple Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) gold medallists and Continental Cup winners.

The team will be led by Johannes Lamparter, a winner of three medals, including one gold, at last year’s FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Finnish city Lahti, and also features Lausanne 2020 Winter YOG gold medallists Stefan Rettenegger and Lisa Hirner.

Manuel Einkemmer comes fresh off his first-ever Continental Cup win in Austrian town Eisenerz on Sunday (February 23).

The team is completed by Fabio Obermeyr, Thomas Rettenegger, Johanna Bassani, Annalena Slamik and Sigrun Kleinrath.

Action in Oberwiesenthal is due to conclude on March 8.
