Ukraine international Artem Besedin has been banned for a year by UEFA after a breach of anti-doping rules, according to his club Dynamo Kyiv.

The 23-year-old was provisionally suspended on December 19 following an unnamed anti-doping rule violation.

In a statement, Dynamo Kyiv said Besedin will be banned until December 19, 2020, pending a possible appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The sanction from UEFA rules Besedin out of this year's pan-continental UEFA European Championship.

Dynamo Kyiv, the 15-time Ukrainian champions, said it "totally supports" Besedin, who scored eight league goals in 13 appearances before his provisional suspension.

The club claimed the length of the suspension meant UEFA "has agreed with the majority of arguments of the club and player".

"We do our best to help him step back into ranks as soon as possible," Dynamo Kyiv added.

Besedin has made 13 appearances for Ukraine and scored his second international goal in Ukraine's draw with Serbia in UEFA Euro 2020 qualification in November.

Ukraine are among the qualifiers for the tournament, which begins on June 12.

Besedin featured for Dynamo Kyiv in their UEFA Europa League campaign, where the Ukrainian side failed to reach the knockout round after finishing third in Group B behind Malmo and Copenhagen.
