Bø and Røiseland, winner of the individual women's 7.5 kilometres sprint and a member of the mixed relay squad which claimed the opening gold medal of the Championships, clocked 43min 19.9sec to secure the world title.

The Norwegian duo, who used only six spare rounds, finished 17.6 seconds clear of Germany's Franziska Preuß and Erik Lesser.

World pursuit champion Emilien Jacquelin and Anais Bescond of France did enough for the bronze medals after completing the course 29.8 seconds adrift of the victorious Norwegians.

The triumph for the Norwegian pair handed Bø a second title of the event and a fourth medal overall.

Bø has not yet won an individual title at these Championships, a record he will hope comes to an end when he competes in the mass start on Sunday (February 23).

"It feels really good," he said. 

"I wanted this gold medal. 

"Marte put me in the right mood today. 

"I saw her attacking face at breakfast today so I was scared."

Bø added: "We did a very good job and she put me right where I wanted. 

"Since we each have two laps here, I did some mistakes in my first but I learned from it. 

"My last part today is one of my best days at work."

Røiseland described Bø's performance as "perfect" as she won a fifth medal at the Championships in the Italian resort.

"It is so great since there were so many teams so close," she said. 

"It was crazy.

"I was nervous but Johannes did a really good job. 

"I am so proud of him; it was perfect."

The event is due to continue on Saturday (February 22) following a rest day tomorrow.
