Rory McIlroy will aim to complete the World Golf Championship (WGC) grand slam when he tees off at the WGC-Mexico Championship in Naucalpan this week.

The world number one will look to join American Dustin Johnson as the only player to have won all four WGC events at the tournament at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

McIlroy, who finished runner-up to Johnson at the corresponding event last year, will also seek a second consecutive WGC title having lifted the WGC-HSBC Champions title in Shanghai in November.

The 30-year-old arrives in Mexico having endured a disappointing final round at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles, where he finished three strokes behind winner Adam Scott of Australia.

The Northern Irishman and Johnson are among a stellar field for the four-day event, which begins tomorrow and concludes on Sunday (February 23).

Scott, who claimed the WGC-Mexico title in 2016, Spain's Jon Rahm, 2019 Open winner Shane Lowry of Ireland and American Justin Thomas have also entered the tournament.

A number of the game's top players have opted not to participate, however, as they balance their schedules ahead of the opening major of the season, The Masters at Augusta National in April.

Brooks Koepka, Tiger Woods and Patrick Cantlay - who are all ranked in the top 10 - have not entered, while Olympic champion Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau and Henrik Stenson will also be absent.
