Cricket South Africa (CSA) has postponed an upcoming tour of Pakistan, citing managing players' workloads as the reason rather than security concerns.

South Africa and Pakistan had been due to play three T20 internationals in Pakistan next month.

"This has purely been done because of the heavy workload and international schedule our players are facing in the immediate future,” said CSA acting chief executive Jacques Faul.

"I have assured my counterpart at the PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board], Wasim Khan, that the tour remains very much on our international schedule.

"I would also like to stress that security was not an issue in asking the PCB for this postponement.

"We will now work together to find an appropriate window in the international cricket calendar."

Pakistan have been unable to play international matches at home for much of the past decade because of security concerns, so losing this opportunity to host South Africa is a blow, although the teams are schedule to meet in Pakistan in 2021.

The Sri Lanka team bus was attacked in Pakistan in 2009 and since then the majority of Pakistan's home games have been played in the United Arab Emirates.

The Proteas last played in Pakistan in 2007.

Test cricket was played in Pakistan for the first time in a decade at the end of last year, with Sri Lanka the tourists.
