Jones joined the USOPC back in 2010 as a director of communications.

He previously held the titles of senior director of communications and vice-president of communications, before adopted his current title last year.

Jones announced on his Twitter account that he was leaving the USOPC following a decade at the organisation.

"I’m grateful for the time spent, the people I’ve met and the athletes I’ve watched inspire a world to be better," he wrote.

"Helping to tell those stories has been the great privilege of my life."

During Jones time at the USOPC, Los Angeles successfully bid for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Los Angeles had originally replaced Boston as the United States candidate for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Los Angeles was awarded the Games in 2028 as part of historic double award, with Paris confirmed as the 2024 host.

Prior to working for the USOPC, Jones spent four years working for global public relations firm Hill+Knowlton.
