Bangladesh claimed their first ever World Cup victory after lifting the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Potchefstroom in South Africa.

Having never made a World Cup final before, the young Bangladeshis faced one of cricket's powerhouses, India, who had previously beaten Australia and won by ten wickets in their demolition of rivals Pakistan.

Bangladesh finished just ahead of Pakistan in the group stages, although their match was cancelled due to rain; before they easily defeated South Africa and then soundly got the better of New Zealand in the semi-finals.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bowl and bowled India out for just 177 runs, leaving the defending champions in peril.

Despite a good start batting, Bangladesh soon struggled, losing three batsmen for just nine runs leaving the score at a less convincing 65-4.

But with the reintroduction of Parvez Hossain Emon after he retired hurt for a time, they found their groove again, hitting 11 fours and a six between Emon and captain, Akbar Ali.

With a downpour approaching and seven wickets in the shed, Bangladesh secured the win for the loss of seven wickets at 170/7, giving them victory under the DLS method with three wickets and 23 balls remaining.

The win was Bangladesh's first world success in cricket after their defeat of four-time champions India.
