Nasr, who had previously given Team QLASH their first defeats of the group stage, won 4-1 over the three games against one of the early favourites.

Hashtag United had topped Group A with a six-point gap to closest competitors NEO, and both were firm favourites for the latter stages of the tournament.

FaZe Clan made a great comeback on day two to lift themselves out of the relegation zone and into third place in Group A on 19 points - four above elimination - while Gillette Infinity Esports hung on by three points ahead of Nordavind DNB and Olympique Lyonnais who didn’t progress.

Group C saw Fnatic and AS Roma dominate at the top, with the former posting an incredible 34 points from a possible 45 - the highest in any group.

The story of the group came from Redemption eSports, last-minute replacements, who qualified for the last 16 with a solid second day.

Team QLASH finishing bottom of the group on eleven points despite having the number one player in the world on their side was a real shock.

Team QLASH’s points tally would also be the worst in the tournament to add to their disappointment.

Group B did not end the way FC Basel 1893 eSports would have liked as they trickled over the line to finish top after looking incredible on day one.

Gareth Bale’s Ellevens team secured their place in the knockout stages along with Borussia-E-Sports and Mkers. 

Movistar Riders and Blue United, who spent most of the two days in the elimination zone, would not progress.

In Group D, Complexity Gaming came out on top in a very tight group which had just six points between top and the elimination zone with two games to go.

Team Futwiz AU also booked their place in the next round with a 1-0 win over R288 with a game to go.

This left their opponents, Sporting CP Esports and Manchester City eSports all on 17 points going into the last round of games.

Manchester City’s defeat to Complexity confirmed their elimination from the tournament alongside DUX Gaming -  despite winning and level with City, DUX were knocked out on goal difference.

Sporting stayed in the competition by a single goal, with R288 also progressing.

In the rest of the last 16 matches, NEO ended the Cinderella story of Redemption eSports, who were late replacements in the tournament after the disqualification of POWER eSports.

Favourites Fnatic continued to show dominant form with a 6-0 shutout of Gillette Infinity Esports, while AS Roma defeated FaZe Clan 5-2.

After two consecutive draws, Sporting also knocked out one of the favourites in Basel as one of last year's winners, nicolas99fc, would not be given the chance to defend his title. 

Ellevens booked their place in the final eight after overcoming Team Futwiz AU and joined Complexity who sailed through against Mkers. 

The final day of competition will conclude with the FIFA eClub World Cup final tomorrow.
