Seeded 32nd in the last 64, the Estonian faced the number 46 seed in the final, with all the favourites knocked out in earlier rounds.  

In the last 32, both first and second seeds, Romania’s Ana Maria Popescu and China’s Lin Sheng, were knocked out as well as Chinese third seed Sun Yiwen, who lost out to number 35 seed Katharine Holmes of the United States.

Seventh seed Coraline Vitalis of France would suffer a last-64 defeat against Kseniya Panteleyeyeva, who made it all the way to the final 16 before being knocked out by the 10th seed, South Korea’s Kang Young-mi.

Only three of the top eight fencers made the quarter-finals, with Hong Kong’s Kong Man Wai Vivian the best seed left, but she would lose to Russia’s Tatiana Gudkova.

Also progressing to the semi-finals was Estonia’s Lehis, who defeated Italy's Mara Navarria to set up a match with the Russian.

On the other end of the bracket, Louis Marie of France became the best seed left in the competition after knocking out Choi In-jeong.

She set up a match with another South Korean as Kang headed into the final four after knocking out Leonora MacKinnon of Canada in a tight bout that  finished 15-14.

Lehis made the final after defeating Gudkova 11-10 and was joined by Louis Marie, who shocked Kang 15-10.

In the final, Lehis won the battle against the French underdog who had fought in the early rounds yesterday unlike the winner, with the final score being a comfortable 15-8.
