The United States and Canada qualified for Tokyo 2020 at the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Football Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship.

The teams took the two available places after reaching the final of the tournament.

Canada, Olympic bronze medallists at London 2012 and Rio 2016, edged past Costa Rica 1-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.

The match remained scoreless until Jordyn Huitema broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute.

It was Huitema's seventh goal of the tournament, which saw the striker become the competition's top goal scorer.

It was a more comfortable victory for the US, with the four-time Olympic champions defeating Mexico 4-0.

Rose Lavelle opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before Samantha Mewis made it 2-0 in the 14th minute.

Mewis then got her second in the 67th minute, before Christen Press scored America's fourth goal just seven minutes later.

Canada are scheduled to take on the US on Sunday (February 9) to determine who wins the tournament.

They join hosts Japan, Brazil, New Zealand, Britain, The Netherlands and Sweden at Tokyo 2020, with four places left for two teams from Asia, one from Africa and one from either Africa or South America.
