In the men's singles quarter-finals, top seed Xu Xin enjoyed a comfortable win over his compatriot Zhao Zihao as he triumphed in four games - 11-8, 11-3, 12-10, 11-8.

In a much tighter affair, fellow Chinese player Lin Gaoyuan raced into a three game lead over Japan's Jun Mizutani.

The third Chinese victor on the day was Ma Long, who enjoyed a comprehensive 11-6, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4 win over Cho Seungmin of South Korea.

A Chinese clean sweep of the men's quarter-finals was prevented by the German Dimitrij Ovtcharov, who knocked out the defending champion Fan Zhendong in a topsy-turvy affair that went the full seven games.

Ovtcharov eventually triumphed 9-11, 11-4, 8-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-5, 12-10.
