Through its relationships with the International University Sports Federation (FISU), FISU Oceania, Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, Asia University Sport Federation, Unisport Australia and the Fiji University, UTSNZ are offering opportunities for athletes, young leaders and volunteers. 

Each opportunity, it is claimed, is set to provide lifelong learning experiences from a sport, cultural and leadership viewpoint, as well as the chance to represent their respective universities and New Zealand.

UTSNZ are hoping to send teams to a number of FISU World University Championships, including beach volleyball, futsal, karate, orienteering, rowing and squash.

There will also be the opportunity for New Zealand universities to compete at FISU University World Cups, with the top teams from the UTSNZ National Tertiary 3x3 Championship set to compete in an Oceanic qualifier for November's FISU University World Cup 3x3 event in Xiamen.

The opportunity for New Zealand athletes to play in an Oceania qualifier for the women’s football World Cup competition is also being explored.

UTSNZ are now accepting expressions of interest from universities for the Unisport Australia National snow and summer events, taking place in September and October. 

They will also send competitors in athletics, karate, taekwondo and weightlifting to the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, due to be held in Kaohsiung from May 2 to 6. 

In addition, invitations have been extended to New Zealand student athletes and teams by the Asian University Sports Federation for the Asian University Volleyball and Archery Championships this year.

Opportunities for volunteers are also set to be on offer at the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy in June in Kazan, the World University Championships Volunteer Programme, and the FISU Forum in Budapest in August.
