Japan's Akane Yamaguchi is the top seed in the women's singles event at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thailand Masters in Bangkok, where action is due to begin tomorrow.

The 2018 world bronze medallist will face a qualifier in the first round at Indoor Stadium Huamark.

Also starting her campaign against a qualifier will be home favourite Ratchanok Intanon, the second seed.

Intanon triumphed at the inaugural edition of the BWF World Tour Super 300 event in 2016, and won the Indonesia Masters yesterday.

In the men's singles competition, China's Shi Yuqi and Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus are among the favourites for success.

Shi, the 2018 world silver medallist, is set to face England's Toby Penty in the first round.

Ng, meanwhile, will go up against two-time Olympic and five-time world champion Lin Dan of China for a place in the last-16.

Main-draw action is scheduled to start on Wednesday (January 22), following qualification tomorrow.
