The United States won three of the six freestyle gold medals on offer, as action concluded today at the United World Wrestling Ranking Series event in Rome.

Among the country's trio of winners was Thomas Gilman, who came out on top in the 57 kilograms category at the Italian capital's Centro Olimpico Matteo Pellicone.

The 2017 world silver medallist beat compatriot Joe Colon 4-3 in the final.

China’s Liu Minghu and Serbia’s Stevan Mićić were the bronze medallists.

The US' two other gold medallists were Kyle Dake and Zahid Valencia.

Dake defeated Turkey's Soner Demirtaş 11-0 in the 74kg final, while Valencia overcame fellow American Alex Dieringer 7-5 in the 86kg final.

The 74kg bronze medals went to Turkey's Fazli Eryilmaz and Kazakhstan's Daniyar Kaisanov.

Rounding off the 86kg podium were American James Downey III and Turkey's Fatih Erdin.

There was disappointment for the US in the 65kg final, which saw Jordan Oliver lose 4-3 to India's Bajrang Bajrang.

Turkey's Selahattin Kilic Sallayan and the US' Zain Retherford were the bronze medallists in that category.

India also tasted victory in the 61kg division through Ravi Kumar, finishing ahead of Kazakhstan's Nurislam Sanayev and Nurbolat Abdualiyev in the round-robin event.

The one other round-robin competition came at 79kg, and ended in success for Ukraine's Vasyl Mykhailov, with Russia's Akhmedkhan Tembotov second and home favourite Carmelo Lumia third.
