The best-performing universities and associations of last year were confirmed after the finalisation of all results. 

French university teams finished on the podium in the women’s basketball competition, both the men’s and women’s golf and tennis championships, the women’s handball event and the men’s volleyball competition, as well as numerous individual competitions in rowing and the four combat sports at the 2019 European Universities Championships.

Germany finished second in the rankings, followed by Ukraine in third.

The Best University Award went to the University of Zagreb, who earned a total of 19 medals at all 16 EUSA Championships in 2019.

Turkey’s Istanbul Aydin University finished second in the ranking followed by University of Malaga from Spain in third.

The University of Zagreb also topped the charts for the Most Active University, earning the highest points based on participation in EUSA events across 2019.

The German University Sports Federation was named the most active NUSA, accumulating 1077 points in the EUSA ranking system. 

Concluding the award giving was the European Kickboxing Federation, the winners of the 2019 Special Award for their contribution and support in the organisation and running of the first European Universities Kickboxing Championship held in the Croatian capital Zagreb. 

The 2019 European Universities Championships were record-breaking for EUSA, with a total of 5242 participants taking part in a record 21 sporting competitions.

These took place at 16 events in nine different countries in Europe.

The fifth edition of the European Universities Games are scheduled for July 12 to 25 in the Serbian capital of Belgrade.
