Last season's overall crystal globe winner Arthur Bauchet started the 2020 World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup campaign with a perfect race, as the first of three days of super-G competition was held in Veysonnaz.

The Frenchman won the men's standing event in a time of 1 min 4.50sec at the Swiss ski resort.

Home athletes Robin Cuche and Thomas Pfyl completed the top three in 1:06.05 and 1:06.85, respectively.

There were victories for Canada in today's two other men's competitions.

Mac Marcoux, back after taking a break over the 2018-2019 season, came out on top in the visually impaired event in 1:03.47.

Italy's Giacomo Bertagnolli was runner-up in 1:05.23, while Australia's Patrick Jensen rounded off the podium in 1:11.22.

In the men's sitting event, Paralympic super-G champion Kurt Oatway triumphed in 1:04.48 and was followed in the rankings by The Netherlands' Jeroen Kampschreur in 1:06.52 and Japan's Takeshi Suzuki in 1:07.60.

Germany tasted victory in two of the three women's competitions.

Last season's super-G overall champion, Anna-Lena Forster of Germany, prevailed in the sitting event in 1:14.30, with the United States' Laurie Stephens second in 1:18.23 and Japan's Yoshiko Tanaka third in 1:26.16.

Forster's compatriot Noemi Ewa Ristau was the sole competitor in the visually impaired event, clocking a time of 1:13.28.

In the women's standing event, Canada's Mollie Jepsen marked her comeback after a missed season by winning in a time of 1:11.68.

Japan's Ammi Hondo took the silver medal in 1:12.52, while Germany's Andrea Rothfuss claimed bronze in 1:12.83.

Action in Veysonnaz continues tomorrow with a second round of super-G races.
