Next year's competition will take place in Canada, who will hope to retain the title their team earned earlier this month.

The defending champions will compete in Group A in Edmonton.

The host nation has been drawn alongside Finland, Switzerland, Slovakia and Germany.

Group A matches will take place at the recently constructed Rogers Place, the home of National Hockey League side Edmonton Oilers.

Oils Kings, a Western Hockey League team, also play their matches at the venue.

Russia head the Group B line-up after finishing as runners-up to Canada in the recently concluded tournament.

They are joined by Sweden, United States and the Czech Republic.

Austria complete the group following their promotion to the top division of the World Junior Championships.

Group B ties will be held at the ENMAX Centrium, the home of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.

The top-four teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

A relegation playoff will take place between the two teams to finish bottom of the standings.

It will be the 14th time the tournament has been held in Canada, with organisers having selected Edmonton and Red Deer as the host cities in December 2018.

The Championships will take place from December 26 in 2020 through to January 5 in 2021.

Gothenburg in Sweden will host the 2022 World Junior Championships, with Novosibirsk in Russia currently due to stage the event in 2023.
