Karl Geiger of Germany topped qualifying for the second Four Hills Tournament event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Geiger delighted the home crowd at the Große Olympiaschanze, scoring 142.7 points.

His performance built on his recent good form after he placed second in the opening Four Hills event in Oberstdorf.

"During the flight phase it was already good in Oberstdorf, I have a good feeling at the moment," Geiger said.

"This was a pretty good jump and I'm slowly getting there."

Philipp Aschenwald of Austria was just behind Geiger with 142.6, while defending champion Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan was third on 140.9. 

Geiger is second in the Four Hill standings on 295.9, behind Kobayashi on 305.1.

Dawid Kubacki of Poland sits third on 294.7. 

The final is scheduled for tomorrow.
