The China Floorball Union has elected its new President ©CFU

Liu Dongwei has been elected President of the China Floorball Union (CFU) at a meeting where the organisation's name and constitution was adopted.

Yuan Yong, Zhu Jianghua, Wang Jun and Li Chunhui have been chosen to serve as vice-presidents of the body, while Ching SyJeng, Chen Xin, Wang Zhaowei were elected as advisors of the CFU Council at its first National Member Congress.

The CFU replaced the China Floorball Federation as the provisional member for the sport in the country in September, following approval from the International Floorball Federation (IFF).

The Congress marks the latest step forward for the CFU, affiliated with the Chinese Hockey Association.

A three-year development strategy and a work plan for 2020 were also given the green light at the Congress.

"The new Council will keep its goal in mind, stick to the concept of development, earnestly inherit and develop floorball culture, and strive to achieve the goals set by the Congress.

"The goal is to make contributions to the development of China’s floorball programme and the construction of sports power."

IFF secretary general John Liljelund was among the officials to send congratulations to the CFU.

"As a promising and new sport activity, floorball, which is well received by young people, is attracting more and more attention," added  Wang Tao, Deputy director of the Handball, Hockey, Baseball and Softball Administrative centre of General Administration of Sport of China.

"The establishment of the CFU will further promote the popularity and development of the program in China and the improvement of sports technique."
