Giacomo Pierbon earned his third Alpine skiing gold medal at the Winter Deaflympics in the Italian resort of Sondrio.

The home favourite, who had already topped the podium in the downhill and combined events, won the super-G at the Deborah Compagnoni slope. 

He crossed the line in 1min 09.79sec, beating Nicholas Sarremejane of France by 0.49sec. 

Frenchman Thomas Luxcey was third, 1.70 off the mark. 

Pierbon then proposed to his partner during the medal ceremony.

Elena Yakovishina of Russia also claimed her third Alpine skiing gold medal, triumphing in the women's super-G in 1:02.57.

Tereza Kmochova of the Czech Republic earned silver in 1:12.98, while Rea Raski of Croatia completed the podium in 1:14.57.

Competition at the Winter Deaflympics continues tomorrow, with action in the men and women's snowboard cross and individual cross-country skiing events.
