Fischnaller emerged as the winner of the men’s competition in front of a home crowd, with the 39-year-old benefiting from mistakes from his rivals.

Fellow Italian Maurizio Bormolini failed to finish in their quarter-final duel, which was repeated by Russia’s Igor Sluev in the semi-final stage.

It saw Fischnaller advance through to the men’s gold medal ride, where he faced South Korea’s Lee Sang-ho, the Pyeongchang 2018 silver medallist.

Fischnaller beat his rival by 0.86 seconds to top the podium for the second consecutive week.

Sluev bounced back from his semi-final disappointment as the Russian won bronze by just 0.03 seconds from Austria’s Lukas Mathies.

There was a German one-two in the women’s competition, with Hofmeister and Selina Joerg having reached the final.

Hofmeister would enjoy a comfortable victory as she crossed the line 7.79 seconds clear of her compatriot.

The podium places were completed by Austria’s Claudia Riegler.

Riegler cruised to the final medal, with China’s Ruxin Zang having failed to finish in the battle for bronze.

The next parallel giant slalom event will take place at Carezza in Italy on Thursday (December 19).
