Chinese city Tianjin is set to play host to an International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup, an event doubling as a qualification competition for next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Action at the Tianjin Renmin Stadium will be spread across three days, beginning tomorrow and concluding on Thursday (December 12).

Medals will be won across 10 weight categories for men and 10 for women.

Among the athletes set to compete is Australia's Eileen Cikamatana, who won the women's 87 kilograms event at last month's IWF Grand Prix in Peru's capital Lima.

However, there is no chance of Cikamatana, who previously represented Fiji and will drop to 81kg in Tianjin, competing at Tokyo 2020.

This is because of what happened in the 19 months between her gold medal triumph at last year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and the IWF Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old missed the first year of qualifying and is unable to compete for two different countries in such a short time period.

When she won at Gold Coast 2018, Cikamatana was competing for Fiji and on course to become her homeland's first Olympic weightlifting medal contender at Tokyo 2020, but now she is wearing the green and gold of Australia and must wait until Paris 2024.
