The women's International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup event is set to begin tomorrow in the Norwegian resort of Lillehammer.

Competition is taking place at the Lysgårdsbakkene Ski Jumping Arena, constructed for the Winter Olympics in 1994.

Two normal hill and one large hill contests are scheduled, with the event concluding on Sunday (December 8).

The home crowd will be hoping for a successful event for Maren Lundby, the Norwegian Olympic champion who claimed the World Cup title for the past two seasons.

She will be aiming to get her season off to a good start, but will be challenged by Katharina Althaus, who triumphed in Lillehammer last year.

The German has always been chasing Lundby, having claimed silver at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics and finishing as runner-up in the 2017-2018 season.

Fellow German Juliane Seyfarth is expected to be another contender, alongside Sara Takanashi of Japan, the most decorated female ski-jumper of all-time.

A qualification event is being held today.
