A strong opening half for the University of the Republic saw them effectively seal a place in the final of the men's tournament.

Nicolas Ferreira put his side ahead with a shot from the edge of the area after 10 minutes of the semi-final against South Korea's Myungji University.

Their advantage was doubled by Santiago Pallares Palomeque as halftime approached, with the team captain finishing off a well executed counter-attack.

The Uruguayans were able to preserve their lead in the second half to book their place in the final.

The team will hope history repeats itself, with Uruguay having won the inaugural FIFA World Cup, with the university now having the chance to triumph in the inaugural FISU World Cup.

Australia's University of Wollongong will provide the opposition in the final, after they beat the Autonomous University of Mexico State 2-0.

Marcus Beattie scored the opening goal on the stroke of halftime, with the Australian team boosted by a man advantage, after Cesar Octavio Velazquez was sent off.

Beattie sealed his team's victory in the second half, after beating the defence for pace before slotting the ball home.

The Australian has scored five goals in the tournament and will prove a threat in the final.

The men's final is on Sunday (December 1), with the women's competition due to conclude tomorrow.
