Ukraine claimed two of the three gold medals up for grabs on the third day of the International Powerlifting Federation World Open Championships in Dubai.

The country's stand-out performer was Larysa Soloviova, who won the women's 63 kilograms event with a world record-breaking total of 645.5kg at the United Arab Emirates city's Hamdan Sports Complex.

Soloviova also managed world record-breaking marks in the squat and bench press, with 241.5kg and 181.5kg, respectively.

Italy's Carola Garra was the overall silver medallist with 625kg, while Russia's Olga Adamovich took bronze with 570kg.

There was also success for Ukraine in the men's 83kg event, thanks to Mykola Barannik's total of 927.5kg.

Russia's Vladislav Shaibekov finished second with 925kg and the podium was rounded off by compatriot Evgenii Vasiukov with 922.5kg.

In the deadlift, Indonesia's Muhammad Yusup posted a world record-breaking mark of 346kg.

Today's one other gold medallist was Russia's Dmitry Inzarkin after he topped the men's 93kg standings with another world record total of 1,035kg.

Second place went to Ukraine's Volodymyr Rysiyev with 1,011kg, while third spot was taken by compatriot Kostiantyn Musiienko with a junior world record-breaking 990.5kg.

Rysiyev broke the squat world record with a lift of 398.5kg, as Musiienko bettered the bench press global mark with 320.5kg.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.

Medals will be awarded in the men's 105kg and women's 72kg categories.
