Day three of competition saw the first batch of competitors eliminated from the repechage rounds. 

Variable winds led to occasional good conditions, with the surf more challenging the afternoon - with main event and repechage heats across the dual podium format. 

One surfer who didn't struggle was Monnojo Yahagi, who helped defending gold medal-holders Team Japan. 

On his ISA debut, Yahagi scored the highest heat total of the day, with 15.87 In the boys under-16 division.

In the u-18 girls, Team New Zealand were in strong form, with Saffi Vette registering the highest heat total with 13.50. 

Team mate Estella Hungerford was in second place on 11.60. 

Peru's Sol Aguirre is worth keeping an eye on, as she recovered from an average performance in the main event to perform strongly in repechage.

She topped the heat totals for girls u-16s with 14.16. 

Poland's Maksymilian Michalewski was outstanding in the boys U-18 repehchage, advancing with the division high total of 11.64.

South Africa's Luke Thompson in the boys u-16s and Morocco's Lamiri Alaoui Ranya in the girls u-18 repechage also progressed. 

"It's never easy to eliminate surfers from the event," ISA President Fernando Aguerre said.

"But the truth is that qualifying for their national teams and representing a country is already a huge accomplishment for all of these surfers. 

"The ISA spirit is alive and well even with surfers who are eliminated. 

"That said, today we began to narrow the field and work our way towards crowning the world champions."

Competition takes place until next Sunday (November 3).
