USA Taekwondo will host their second Senior Grand Slam event in Colorado Springs during January, it has been announced.

The national governing body has announced the event is due to take place at the National Center of Excellent from January 10 to 12.

The first Senior Grand Slam competition was held in September, with USA Taekwondo hailing the event as a success.

USA Taekwondo promised the event would be at a high level of competition and gave top American athletes the opportunity to test themselves.

Taekwondo players who won gold and silver at the National Championships in Minnesota in June and July earned automatic qualification for the tournament.

The top six athletes on the US rankings in each of the Olympic weight divisions also featured.

It is hoped the second Senior Grand Slam will replicate the success of the inaugural event.

Athletes will be invited to the event by USA Taekwondo.

The competition has been listed as a major USA Taekwondo event and will play a role in determining their senior athlete pathway procedures.

Athletes will be able to score points, which will go towards their efforts to compete at next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Performances at the Senior Grand Slam will contribute towards the United States’ national rankings.

United States will hope to improve on their solitary taekwondo Olympic medal from Rio 2016 at Tokyo next year.

Jackie Galloway won bronze in the women’s over-67 kilograms heavyweight division at Rio 2016.
