Married couple Nour El Tayeb and Ali Farag of Egypt progressed to the final of the women's and men's events, respectively, at the Professional Squash Association U.S. Open Squash Championships in Philadelphia.

El Tayeb overcame top seed and defending champion Raneem El Welily 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 to book a place in the women's final at the Drexel University Daskalakis Athletic Center in this PSA World Tour Platinum event.

The 26-year-old is set to take on another Egyptian for the title after Nouran Gohar beat Camille Serme of France 11-4, 11-6, 11-4.

Farag secured a spot in the final of the men's event by defeating seventh seed Diego Elias of Peru 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.

The reigning world champion is scheduled to play second seed and fellow Egyptian Mohamed ElShorbagy for the U.S. Open crown.

ElShorbagy progressed thanks to a 11-8, 11-9, 11-3 victory over compatriot Tarek Momen.

El Tayeb and Farag are seeking to repeat their triumph at the U.S. Open in 2017, when they became the first married couple to win the same major title on the same day in any sport.

"If leaving the room today you would have told us that we [Farag and El Tayeb] would be leaving with two 3-0 wins tonight, I wouldn’t have believed you," Farag said.

"We will both have solid opponents in the final now.

"We’re going to give it our best and if we walk away with another repeat of 2017 then we would be very happy."
