Fan Zhendong remains on course to defend his Swedish Open title after progressing to the quarter-finals at the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour event in Stockholm.

The three-time winner overcame home favourite Jon Persson on the first day at the Eriksdalshallen.

The Chinese star followed up that performance by overcoming Japan's Jun Mizutani in straight games today.

Fan triumphed 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 14-12 to set up a last-eight clash with France's Simon Gauzy.

Gauzy is one of only two non-Chinese players to feature in the quarter-finals of the men's singles draw.

Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov is the other, after he won in straight games against Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting today.

Ovtcharov is set to face China's Lin Gaoyuan in his quarter-final.

Xu Xin is due to meet Liang Jingkun in the first of the all-Chinese last-eight matches tomorrow, while Zhao Zihao will take on Wang Chuqin.

China's dominance is even stronger in the women's event, with the table tennis superpower boasting seven of the eight quarter-finalists.

Japan's Mima Ito is their sole opposition after she overcame her team mate Miu Hirano in a seven-game thriller.

Ito claimed an 11-8, 12-14, 7-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 win to reach the quarter-finals.

She now faces China's Wang Manyu.

Sun Yingsha and Ding Ning meet in one of three all-Chinese clashes, with Liu Fei and Qian Tianyi also set to go head-to-head.

Chen Meng's tie with Liu Shiwen could yet prove the pick of the ties.
