Costa Rica were beaten by Mexico to finish last out of the 20 teams at the World Lacrosse Men's Indoor World Championship in British Columbia.

They lost 14-11 at the Langley Events Centre, with Mexico securing 19th place. 

Two other playoff matches took place, with Switzerland edging past Hong Kong 16-14 to come 17th. 

Sweden then got past Scotland 18-9 to achieve a 15th-place finish.

The remaining positions are set to be decided tomorrow with The Netherlands meeting Czech Republic, Austria up against Slovakia, Israel taking on Finland and Serbia playing Ireland.

The gold-medal match will also take place, with hosts and defending champions Canada set to come up against Iroquois Nationals, a repeat of the final in all four previous editions. 

England and the United States will battle it out for the the bronze medal.
