Organisers of November's World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai held a first aid course for event volunteers.

The programme in the United Arab Emirates city was arranged by Championships venue, the Dubai Club for People with Determination, and Dubai Ambulance Services.

Participants were given instructions on burns and fractures, and also taught how to provide rapid assistance to accident victims.

Volunteers Committee chairman Hussein Al-Abdullah thanked Dubai Ambulance Services for hosting the event and stressed its importance.

Around 800 volunteers will be in place for the World Championships, between November 7 and 15.

More than 1,600 athletes from 125 countries will compete.

"Volunteers are the backbone of a Championships," organisers said.

"Thus, educating them with several aspects, including first aid, is important for smooth conduct of the competition."
