Japan recorded victories in both the men's and women's matches played today at the Tokyo 2020 basketball test event at the Saitama Super Arena.

The hosts defeated Chinese Taipei 91-59 in the first women's match at the venue which host the Olympic basketball tournaments at next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This was followed by victory over Germany in the evening men's match as Japan edged an exciting game 86-83.

Rui Hachimura, who plays in the United States for Washington Wizards, was the star for the hosts, scoring 31 points and picking up five rebounds.

The men's matches are also doubling as a warm-up for the International Basketball Federation World Cup, starting in China on August 31.

It also forms part of the International Basketball Games 2019, while the women's matches are part of the Mitsui Fudosan Cup.

The test event continues tomorrow, with Japan's men facing Tunisia and their women playing Chinese Taipei in part two of their double header.
