Chinese Taipei and South Korea were the stand-out performers in senior kyorugi competition at the Asian Taekwondo Open Championships in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, claiming four gold medals each.

Among the quartet of Taiwanese gold medallists at Sports Stadium – Military Zone No. 7 was Chuang Kuan-Yu, who beat China's Dong Huimeng in the women's under-62 kilograms final.

There were also triumphs for compatriots Ho Chia-Hsin, Liu Wei-Ting and Lee Meng-En.

Ho defeated India's Mahendra Singh Parihar in the men's under-68kg final, while Liu overcame South Korea's Park Woo-Hyeok in the men's under-80kg final and Lee prevailed against the Philippines' Israel Cesar Cantos in the men's under-87kg final.

Lee Ah-Reum was one of South Korea's four winners after beating Turkey's Hatice Kübra İlgün to the women's under-57kg title.

She was joined in producing podium-topping performances by Kim Jan-Di, Jang Jun and Kim Tae-Hun.

Kim Jan-Di proved too strong for China's Xiao Shunan in the women's under-67kg final, while Jang defeated Mongolia's Tumenbayar Molom in the men's under-58kg final and Kim Tae-Hun overcame Chinese Taipei's Hsu Hao-Yu in the men's under-63kg final.

Ranking third in the gold medal stakes were the Philippines with three.

Two of their triumphs came at the expense of Indonesian opposition with Kurt Bryan Barbosa beating Reinaldy Atmanegara in the men's under-54kg final and Dave Cea defeating Dinggo Ardian Prayogo in the men's under-74kg final.

There was also success for Veronica Garces, who overcame Chinese Taipei's Chang Yu-Hsin in the women's under-46kg final.

China and hosts Vietnam both managed to secure two gold medals.

Shi Juan beat Wang Yu in an all-Chinese women's over-73kg final and compatriot Sun Hongyi got the better of Thailand's Nattapat Tantramart in the men's over-87kg final.

Truong Thi Kim Tuyen was one of Vietnam's gold medallists thanks to victory over China's Zuo Ju in the women's under-49kg final.

The home nation also came out on top in the women's under-73kg division with Nguyen Thi Huong finishing ahead of fellow countrywoman Nguyen Thi Trang.

Completing the list of 16 winners was Indonesia's Mariska Halinda, who defeated Thailand's Phannapa Harnsujin in the women's under-53kg final.
