Australia's Penny Smith claimed the women's trap gold medal as action continued today at the International Shooting Sport Federation Shotgun World Cup in Lahti.

Smith triumphed in the final with a total of 45 at the Finnish city's Hälvälä Sport Shooting Center.

Home favourite Satu Makela-Nummela came second with 40, while Smith's compatriot Laetisha Scanlan ranked third with 33.

Russia's Daria Semianova, who topped the qualification standings, had to settle for fourth place with 28.

After the second day of qualification in the men's trap event, Turkey's Yavuz Ilnam has taken the lead with a total of 73.

Malta's William Chetcuti, the frontrunner after the first day of qualification, is second with 72.

Completing the top three is Portugal's Joao Azevedo with 71.

The men's trap event is due to conclude tomorrow with the third part of qualification and the final.
