The bobsleigh track used for the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo could be re-built following an expression of interest in the project.

As reported by the Sarajevo Times, representatives of the public enterprise "ZOI'84", the legal successor of the site led by general manager Kenan Magoda, have spoken with representatives of the Cantonal Government and the Cantonal Development and Planning Institute, and a delegation from Catalonia, led by the region's envoy for the Southeast Europe region Eric Hauck, about the project.

"This is a unique bobsled track in the world," Magoda was reported as saying by the Sarajevo Times.

"Only in Sarajevo is the trail near the city centre with a beautiful view.

"We are ready to conclude with the Government of Canton Sarajevo all key projects owned by 'ZOI'84' and direct interest to residents of Sarajevo."

The bobsleigh track sits on Trebević mountain and was built two years before the 1984 Winter Olympics.

It was heavily damaged during the Bosnian War, which took place from April 1992 to December 1995, and has been abandoned since then for most of the time.

Covered in graffiti, the track is occasionally used for extreme cycling competitions.

"'ZOI'84' as the legal successor of the Trebević bobsled track is entering new projects, with the help of Sarajevo Canton Government," 'ZOI'84' said in a statement, as reported by N1.

"The interest of the Government of Catalonia in taking part proves that this is a very significant project."

Hauck said he had wanted to support the project for some time, but that he has only just recognised the ability of those with whom he spoke to on the matter..
