Holders Great Britain comfortably beat Switzerland on the opening day of the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation European Championship Division A in Vejle in Denmark.

The seven-time champions triumphed 52-21 in the Group B clash as they begun their quest for a third-straight gold medal at the biennial event on the right note. 

Today's other match in the same section saw Denmark delight the home crowd at DGI Huset Vejle by defeating Poland 59-43.

In Group A, there were wins today for France and four-time winners Sweden.

Sweden overcame The Netherlands 54-48 before France prevailed 51-44 at the expense of Germany.

Round-robin action is set to continue tomorrow.

The Group A schedule is made up of matches between France and The Netherlands, and Sweden and Germany.

Britain face Poland in tomorrow's first Group B game before Switzerland meet Denmark.

The top two teams from each group will progress through to the semi-finals on Saturday (August 10). 

The tournament's finalists will qualify for next year's Paralympic Games in Tokyo, while the third and fourth-place nations will be invited to the final qualification event, due to be held early next year.
