Taekwondo coaches from the Kenya Taekwondo Federation (KTF) will be sent into schools in a bid to improve the quality of the sport in the country.

KTF Secretary General George Oyoo said the coaches selected for the scheme will have refresher training sessions prior to visiting schools.

One such event has been planned at the Kenya Police Pavilion in South B in capital city Nairobi.

Egyptian instructor Aly Nour will lead the session, with more than 30 trainers expected to attend.

Oyoo told the Kenyan news outlet Nation Sport: "The game of taekwondo continues to dwindle in the country because of minimal activity at our public schools.

"We hope to rescue the situation by sending the coaches to various institutions to train the learners."

Oyoo said the two-day training sessions could save KTF a huge financial burden incurred by sending coaches abroad.

Athletes from the Kenya Taekwondo national team will undergo a two-week training camp in Egypt as they prepare for the African Games in Morocco later this month.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Kenya's Mildred Alangro reached the bronze medal match of the under-49 kilograms category before losing to Venezuelan Dalia Contreras.

Dickson Wamwiri Wanjiku also represented Kenya at Beijing 2008, losing his men's under-58kg preliminary round match against eventual bronze medallist Chu Mu-yen of Chinese Taipei.
