Puerto Rico maintained their perfect start to the Women's Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships as they surprised Haudenosaunee in Canada.

The central American nation, making its debut at the World Championship in Peterborough in Ontario, secured a fourth successive win by defeating Haudenosaunee 12-8 to top Pool E at Justin Chiu Stadium.

"I think because of our trust in each other’s ability to defend one on one, and the strength of our one on one defence,” said Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw, who scored Puerto Rico's first World Championship goal earlier this week, when asked about the key to their success so far.

"So, as we’re marking our attacker, we’ll be confident in our teammates being able to do their job as a defender."

Their reward for topping the pool is a last-16 clash against New Zealand.

In the pool's other match, Israel secured a first win of the tournament as they overpowered Belgium 17-4.

China made it three wins out of four in Pool C with a 15-5 victory against Kenya as South Korea won 22-10 against Jamaica.

In Pool D, Mexico picked up their second win by defeating Ireland 13-6.

Defending champions and hosts Canada finished second in Pool A behind the United States and will face South Korea in the round of 16 contests tomorrow.

The US go up against Chinese Taipei, while Czech Republic's reward for winning Pool D is a match against Wales.

Germany won all four of their Pool C matches and will face Scotland.
