Reza Saki followed his victory over the Summer Youth Olympic Games champion in the semi-final of the United World Wrestling Cadet Championship by winning the gold medal in the 71 kilograms Greco-Roman category in Sofia. 

The Iranian defeated the Buneos Aires 2018 silver medallist, Stepan Starodubtsev of Russia, 4-1 in the final at the Armeets Arena in Bulgaria's capital. 

Youth Olympic champion Alexandrin Gutu of Moldova earned consolation by beating Rauf Abdulla Aliyev of Azerbaijan in their third-place bout, with Turkey's Furkan Tas also earned bronze as he beat Aliaksei Piakhota of Belarus.

Saki was the second Iranian gold medallist of the day after Saeid Leivesi beat Azerbaijani wrestler Elmir Aliyev 2-1 in the 51kg final.

The bronze medals went to Volodymyr Voitovych of Ukraine, who beat Denis Mihai from Romania, while there was something for the home fans  to cheer as Bulgarian Edmond Nazaryan defeated Arshad Arshad of India.

On the final day of competition, Mukhammad Evloev suffered his second World Cadet Wrestling Championships final disappointment as he lost the 92kg gold medal fight to Azerbaijan's Lachin Valiyev.


Valiyev beat the Russian, who also lost the 2017 final, via pin with the score 2-2 at the time.

Bronze medals went to Estonia's Richard Karelson, who saw off László Csaba Varsányi of Hungary, and to Turkey's Oktay Demir, who easily beat Israel's Maik Haimov.

There was better news for Russia in the 60kg category as European champion Maksim Skuratov added the world title to his collection as he beat Mert Ilbars of Turkey 5-0.

Nika Broladze of Georgia and Armenia's Arman Vardanyan won the bronze medals, beating Seyed Sohrabi of Iran and Kyrgyzstan's Zhanbolot Turatbekov respectively.

The first final of the final day saw the 45kg Greco-Roman final, won by Kazakhstan's Samatbek Izimgali, who beat Asadbek Bakhramov of Uzbekistan 4-0.

The other medals went to Azerbaijan's Farid Sadikhli, who saw off Mahdi Zenab of Iran, and to Tamazi Glonti of Georgia, who beat Vladyslav Kurkurin from Ukraine.
