Misugu Okamoto showed once again why she is a name to keep an eye on in the build-up to next year's Olympic Games as the 13-year-old skateboarder won gold at the 2019 Summer X Games in Minneapolis.

The 13-year-old Japanese sensation laid down a marker with victory at a Tokyo 2020 qualifier in Long Beach last June and, with skateboarding set to make its Olympic debut at the Games, Okamoto has the potential to star on home soil.

She won another of the sport's leading events with victory in the women's skateboard park event at the US Bank Stadium, with another young Japanese talent, 10-year-old Cocona Hiraki, in second place.

The bronze medal went to Finland's Lizzie Armanto.

It was a successful day for Australian athletes as three picked up gold medals, including Corey Creed in the Moto X quarterpipe high air.

Creed set the winning height with his fifth attempt, achieving a huge 32 feet and six inches to claim gold.

Tyler Bereman of the United States almost caught Creed on his final effort, reaching 31'9", enough for silver, while another American, Colby Raha, was third with 31'4".

Ryan Williams won the BMX big air event with a score of 93.66, ahead of American Morgan Wade with 91.66, and fellow Australian Vince Byron on 84.66.

Rob Adelberg completed the golden treble in the Moto X freestyle, setting 92.33 on his second run to beat fellow countryman Josh Sheehan's 90.00, while Jackson Strong scored 87.33 to complete an Australian one-two-three.

Strong - who won gold three years ago in Moto X best trick in Austin having just returned from hospital after he crash-landed on a double back-flip during the quarterpipe competition an hour previously - set the highest score on the first run but was over taken by Sheehan and Adelberg on the second attempts.

Competition continues tomorrow with the men's BMX park, Moto X best trick, skateboard big air, men's skateboard street, BMX Street, BMX dirt and Moto X best whip.
