Switzerland’s 22-year-old Sina Frei retained her women’s under-23 title in Brno on the penultimate day of the European Cycling Union (UEC) Mountain Bike European Championships.

Frei, who won team gold at last year’s International Cycling Union (UCI) Mountain Bike World Championships on home ground at Lenzerheide, claimed another gold today in 1hr 15min 14sec.

Silver went to Austria’s Laura Stigger, who finished in 1:15:28, with bronze going to Loana Lecompte of France on 1:15:28.

The men’s junior cross country title went – by fractions of a second – to Lukas Malezsewski of Belgium in a winning time of 1:04:26, the same credited to silver medallist Janis Baumann of Switzerland.

Britain’s Harry Birchill was third in 1:05.35.

Switzerland’s Jacqueline Schneebeli won the women’s junior cross country event in 1:02:57.

Silver went to Austria’s Mona Mitterwallner, who was timed at 1:04.49 ahead of Britain’s bronze medallist Harriet Harnden, who clocked 1:05.14.
