Top seed Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland reached the final of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Russian Open after defeating Iris Wang of the United States in Vladivostok.

Gilmour, the silver medallist at last month’s European Games in Belarus' capital Minsk, defeated Wang 21-17, 21-8 at Sport Hall Olympik.

She will face off against Pai Yu-po for the gold medal, after the Chinese Taipei athlete fought back against Switzerland's Sabrina Jaquet to win 11-21, 21-16, 21-17.

Gilmour is also two-times European Championships silver medallist, finishing second in 2016 and 2017. 

The duo will contest the women's final of the BWF Tour Super 100 event tomorrow.

In the men's competition, second seed Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia booked his place in the final with a 21-16, 21-18 victory against compatriot and fourth seed Ihsan Maulana Mustofa. 

Singapore's Loh Kean Yew will be his opponent following a confident 21-16, 21-18 win against Japan's Kodai Naraoka.

The men's final will also take place tomorrow.

The winner of each competition will receive $5,625 (£4,499/€5,007) in prize money.
